Ivermectina is a drug commonly used in parasitic infections, it belongs to the family of medicines called anthelmintics. This drug is semi-synthetic, which means that part of its component is manufactured in laboratories.
This derives from the avermectin that is obtained by the fermentation of the Sterptomyces avermitilis. This drug has a microfilaricidal effect, this means that they have the ability to kill microfilariae in onchocerciasis.
The pharmaceutical form of this is in tablets for oral consumption, and in cream for topical use or on the skin.
This drug should not be used during pregnancy or lactation.
This apart from being used in parasitic conditions such as onchocerciasis or strongyloidiasis, can be used in infestation by lice or scabies.
